Description:
Plough zone covering a depth of 25-30cm from the surface. Loose lumps of clay-rich mid-brown deposit, more compacted towards the bottom. Fairly frequent pot, stone and baked brick fragments. Occasional animal bone. Halaf pottery common at the top of the deposit but increasingly rare with depth; the lowest level of the plough zone has predominantly Iron Age pottery. A medieval (Abbasid?) coin was found near the top of the deposit, but otherwise little sign of later material.
