Deposit below A-017. Significantly softer and siltier than the compacted clay-rich A-017 above, but continued to contain relatively little pottery or other cultural material. Pottery continued as a mix of pre-historic and Iron-Age. The top of A-022 was the point at which pit A-024 became definable, but it was also partially visible at the level above in A-017, so the top of A-022 is not the level from which it was dug. At the bottom level reached at the end of the season, there was increasing differentiation between a harder deposit towards the north of the square and softer, siltier material in the southern half. There was also the remains of a fairly large pot emerging near the north-eastern corner, and a diagonal linear ashy patch in the SW quarter. This seems to promise some actual archaeological features, or even architecture to come if we continue down in future seasons. 100% sieved
